Holiday Time Update

I hope this update finds everyone enjoying this holiday season. I have been out of school/work for a week and a half and Glenn also took leave, so he hasn't had to worry (more or less) about work or go in at all. It's been an amazing break from the Army! My parents and Adri came up for Christmas and we had a great time, along with a great 7 or so inches of snow the day after Christmas. We are planning on going down to GA tomorrow to spend New Years with my parents and hopefully see a few friends.

We had a doctors appt today, and everything looks and sounds good. The heart beat was around 15o bmp, which is perfectly healthy. I am a day shy of 15 weeks and definitely beginning to show, I need to go have a shopping day full of maternity clothes. We have another appointment on Feb 4th for the in-depth ultra sound and to find out the gender. This month and a week is going to drag by, Glenn and I are getting very anxious to find out what we're having and nail down a name.

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts, keep them going! :)

It worked!

I had decided to order an at home dopplar to try to listen to our June Bug's little heartbeat. Well, it came in the mail today and I tried it out...and low and behold, it WORKED! It doesn't tell how fast it is, but it was amazing to be able to hear it for myself in the comfort of our own home! Just had to share my excitement with everyone! :-)

June Bug

So it's been a while since my last blog....no longer doing the C25K...although I did accomplish it, I was able to run 5k, was never able actually run in an organized 5k, still proud of myself though. So now....I'm on to growing a baby! Glenn and I are so excited and love to be able to share this with all of our family and friends...near and far. Here's a little survey I copied and pasted from my other friend's blog who is pregnant. Enjoy!

How far along? 11 weeks

Maternity clothes? not yet

Stretch marks? nope

Sleep: can't get enough of it!

Best moment this/last month: Sharing our surprise with family

Movement: nope, too early

Food cravings: none really...just aversions

Gender: not sure yet

Labor Signs: none

Belly Button in or out? Definitely still in

Wedding rings on or off? On

What I miss: Being able to eat anything at anytime, not feeling nauseas, having my clothes fit

What I am looking forward to: Actually looking pregnant, and not just fat. :)

Weekly Wisdom: Pony tail holders work wonders...not just in your hair!

Milestones: Heard the heartbeat again....160BMP, nice and strong!

Week 2-Day 2

So, the last time I ran was Saturday and for the past two days I've been feeling kinda blah, but decided I HAD to run today. It was the same thing as it was on Saturday, but I know I ran further because I walked on 3.7 instead of 3.5mph and ran on 5.7 instead of 5.5 mph, but I accidentally turned off the treadmill before looking at my mileage. Whoops! So I know I went further then 2.02miles. My right knee was definitely hurting today, not sure why, but I hope it doesn't become a regular thing.

My dad has challenged me and told me if by next July I was able to do a 10k he would run the Peachtree Road Race with me that is held in Atlanta every 4th of July. It is a HUGE event and since I call Atlanta home, I feel like I should do it at least once in my life. We'll see where life leads me and if I will be able to do it.

Week 2-Day 1

This week's C25K plan is:

5 min walk

90 sec jog
2 min walk
-do the above for 20 mins

5 min cool down walk

Today was definitely a little harder, but I also haven't ran since Wednesday. It was doable and not horrible by any means. I did 2.02 miles, so still more then I have done so far, hoping my distance will continue to increase.

I think I am going to also do KK's upper body DVD workout today. So far so good with the program...I've GOT to stick to it though!

Day 3

So I did day 3 today. Yesterday was a complete rest day for me (because I chose it to be, haha!) The day before that I did Kim Kardashian's Fit in Your Jeans By Friday: Upper Body (Arms/Back/Core) and that kicked my butt, and I was sore yesterday.

Today's C25K workout was the same as day 1 & 2. (On the treadmill, yeah it was 102 deg here!)
-my knees were a little achy today
-Overall I did pretty good considering I was breaking out in hives on my chest and I had laid out/swam in the sun for 2 1/2 hours earlier in the day.
-I ran 2.01 miles, which is up from day 1 and 2

I think tomorrow I will do another one of KK's workout DVDs then start off week 2 of the C25K plan on Friday. I know it's early, but I think it's working!

Day 2

So I did day 2, without a day of rest. It was the same workout as yesterday, but I ended up being able to go a bit faster, therefore went 1.98 miles instead of 1.88, so 1/10 miles more in 30mins. Not too shabby for the 2nd day, I think. My knee was a little twingy today, but not bad. So yay for day two being done! Only 22 days to go!

Starting the Couch to 5K program...eek!

So y'all that know me know that I am an active person: hiking, swimming, water sports, gymnastics etc. But one thing I've never been good at, but always wanted to and tried to be was running. My dad is a good runner and had a college track scholarship to go to Auburn until he had his motorcycle wreck. Well, my mom is not a good runner, never has been, so I guess I got that from her. Glenn is also a great runner, and I am so jealous of it. I would love to be able to go running with him and possibly run a 5k together. I have plenty of friends who just go on a long run to get stress out, well running stresses me out, so that kind of defeats the purpose.

So, I have seen this training program before, Couch to 5K (C25k) and for whatever reason decided to give it a try starting today. It is supposed to take 2 months and you will be able to run 5k. There are all sorts of benefit 5Ks everywhere and would love to be able to actually compete in one. I know that I won't win anything, or be the fastest, but if I can just run the whole thing that will be quite an accomplishment for me. So...my goal is to be able to run a 5k in 2 months, like the program says. So watch out 5ks in September and October....here I come!

So....Day 1
It was 5mins brisk walk
then 20mins of 60 sec jog and 90 sec walk
5 min cool down
I did this in 1.88miles, hopefully that will increase!

I did it on my treadmill, I need to also do this outside, but I'm going to have to work up to that as well.

It wasn't bad. The only thing was I was sweating a good bit, but my breathing was good, my knees didn't hurt and my muscles weren't aching too bad either. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Maybe I can speed up this process a bit. It is 3 work outs a week and since I'm not currently working I want to workout every day. Hmm...maybe...maybe not. We'll see.

Wish me luck!!

(Oh and Glenn comes home in less then two weeks....can you say EXCITED?!?!?!)

Bring on SPRING!

Well, I just got home from visiting my mom and sister in GA this weekend. My dad so graciously flew me out there with some frequent flyer miles so I could spend some time with my family, get out of NC, and see a UGA gymnastics meet. It was great, we found my sister a prom dress, went to the meet (albeit we got there a little date due to the wonderful Atlanta traffic), and I got some Varsity, which made me a very happy girl. Then on Sunday I played a lot of MarioKart Wii with my sister, and enjoyed vegging and watching HGTV with my mom, then had to fly back to NC.

Glenn and I have gotten through 5 months of this deployment, only 7 left till he's home for good, and only 4 months till I get to have him again for 2 wonderful weeks. I cannot wait for that wonderful June day when I get to hug him again.

My spring break is the 1st week of April and I am going skiing with my dad, aunt, and uncle in CO. Things like this that I can count down to are wonderful, they make the deployment so much more bearable.

I am very excited that the weather is FINALLY warming up, I am so sick of this cold, snowy winter weather, I live in the south! I shouldn't have seen this much snow in one winter, and I shouldn't have 3 school days to make up due to days out of school that we missed because of snow! It's annoying and I don't like it! Ok, rant over :) This week is supposed to be full of 60's and even one 70 day! I might finally get to start wearing the FOUR new dresses I have bought recently.

Well, here's to spring coming and going quickly :)

I'm So Lucky

So Valentine's Day is tomorrow and I know it's just going to be like every other day, which is fine, Glenn and I have never really been very big into Valentine's Day. But, he has really gone above and beyond this year since he's gone. I got a new iPhone cover in the mail this week....I must admit, I'm not crazy about it, and will be returning it, but it's the thought that counts. Then, the next day I got a little blue box in the mail :) Everybody knows that means Tiffany's! I got a gorgeous open heart necklace, it's perfect, I love it! I also got a surprise delivery of a giant teddy bear and a dozen red roses at school yesterday. It was a total surprise and definitely made up for him not being here for Valentine's Day. He's gotten me flowers before, and had flowers delivered to the house before, but not to where I worked. I am a lucky girl, and I know it! Hopefully *crossing my fingers* we will be together for Valentine's Day next year!

Some other interesting things is that this winter has been C-R-A-Z-Y! We have have winter weather 3 times so far! Two weeks ago we had snow/ice/wintery mix craziness that closed my school for 2 days! Then last night it was snowing like crazy! I went outside to play with the dogs in the snow and took some pics. The dogs love the snow, especially Jasmine! She loves to try to catch snowballs.
Lilly would rather just root around and run around in the snow. I wish that Glenn was here to enjoy the snow with me, he really enjoys the snow and playing with the dogs in it. Not sure if I want to wish for this kind of snow for next year though. Thankfully it's already melting, so hopefully no school closings on Monday, since we already have 2 makeup days scheduled. I am ready for the snow and cold to be done with...come on spring and summer! (Ironically, I am going skiing in Denver for spring break, lol!)

Glenn is doing good, he would obviously rather be home, but he has decided to put his down time to use and work on his masters. He is taking online classes through Liberty University in Human Services. The good news is that we are officially half way to his r&r, which is at the end of June. Just another reason for me to want this school year to be over quickly! Well, that's all for now, hope everyone have a great Valentine's Day!

Trying this again

Well, let's try this blogging thing again. :-)

A lot has happened...

-I got a job teaching special education 4th and 5th graders who need extra help in either math, reading, writing, or behavior. I love my job now, it is a complete 180 from last year. I love principal, my co-workers, the school in general, my students, and the actual school overall. I have recently moved into the new wing that just opened up, which has brand new EVERYTHING, including a SMART board...the love of my life when it comes to teaching.

-Glenn left for Bahrain in October with the rest of his unit. The 1st month was rough for me, but my job and amazing friends kept me busy and since then things have been going good. I am used to the idea of him being gone, although I don't like it any better then I did a few months ago. In the beginning of the year Glenn was moved to UAE to do a different job. This move was good for him because it got him away from his old unit which was just a toxic environment. He is able to visit fun cities, like Abu Dhabi and Manama. He just started his masters online in what would be essentially sociology with a business emphasis. His 2 week r&r will be the end of June/beginning of July, so I am looking forward to that coming quickly!

-I have been lucky enough to do some traveling since Glenn has been gone, as well as have visitors myself. Due to my dad's crazy amount of frequent flier miles, I was not only able to go to GA for Christmas, but in January for Adrienne's Special Olympic Gymnastics and am going back in March for a UGA gymnastics meet. Mom and Adri came up in Novemeber to visit me, and we had a good time shopping and just spending time together. My best friend Amanda, who I taught next to last year, moved to VA in Sept. and is pregnant and not teaching, so she has made a few trips down to spend the week with me, which is great since she is moving to Kansas next month. I am going to Denver with the family in April for my spring break, I can't wait to break out the skis again!

-My most recent adventure was Thursday, I went with Amanda and got another tattoo. What would have been my due date is actually Sunday, and I felt I needed to do something to represent everything that happened and decided on an open heart on my foot. Yes, it hurt, but it was totally worth it!
